Back in January, I suggested to Jeffrey that we do the Bay to Breakers together. I hadn't done it since 1994, and I figured I was due for a comeback.

So we started training out at Lake Chabot, and we were doing pretty well, and pretty soon we said "Hey, we shouldn't just run the race. We should try for the top 10,000 and get our names in the Examiner."

The race started at 8am, and I crossed the finish line 7.46 miles later at 9:15.

"Hmmm," I thought, "Barely made ten minute miles. Will this be enough to get me in the top 10,000?"

Well, our internet was down at the Pink House, so I couldn't look up my ranking, but Jeffrey called me Sunday afternoon and told me that I finished at number 4773.

Jeffrey finished five minutes ahead of me and managed to break the top 3000.

I would have caught up with him, but I blew out my left knee at the 2.5 mile mark coming down the Hayes Street Hill. Oh man. I was hurtin'. I knew if I was going to make it to the finish line I was going to have to slow down and shorten my stride.

Well, and pour myself a Mai Tai. Thank goodness for that impromptu tiki bar on Fell Street.
