Folsom Prison Dudes
Sat, 06 May 2006: So me and Tony are up in Sacramento last Sunday visiting Kevin and Nancy, and after we move in the furniture and the TV from the moving sale, we get to talking about the research that I'm doing on this gang of West Coast Depression-Era bank robbers, and I happen to mention Folsom Prison.

Dude says to me "Folsom Prison? That's like twenty minutes away. Did you know they have a museum and a gift shop?"

Wed, 03 May 2006: You need to have kids in your life, because kids see things that would otherwise go unnoticed.

Like this weekend, for instance. Me and Tony get up to Sacramento to see Kevin and Nancy and the kids, but Kevin and his oldest son aren't home yet because they got distracted on the way home from Albertson's.

Hit the road, shack!
Sun, 23 Apr 2006: Years and years ago, I was at a housewarming party out in Glen Park, one of San Francisco's outlying neighborhoods. It's my old neighborhood, actually, from when I was a little kid, but in those days I don't think anybody called it Glen Park. It was just called the Outer Mission.

We were cool with that name in those days. It's kind of like if you lived in the Outer Bronx. You know, at least it's not the Inner Bronx, right?

Flower Power
Sun, 16 Apr 2006: I'm old enough I've met quite a few old timers who lived through the Big Quake in 1906.

My great grandmother, in fact, who was 17 at the time of the Quake, used to tell us about how she and her family camped with other displaced persons in Golden Gate Park, and she said she had a really good time.
