Tomato planting season is nearly upon us here in El Cerrito, but there's more to growing my world famous Liberty Avenue heirlooms than just sticking some seedlings in the ground.
First you got to hoe up them weeds. Oh man. They seem to get more tenacious every year. I swear I'm gonna take a bazooka to the neighbor's honeysuckle.
And then I figured it's time to harvest this compost that I've been rotating around in my Canadian composter for the past five years.
Man, that is some beautiful compost! Just crawling with red wigglers and sow bugs.
Don't be scared of red wigglers. Just grab a handful of 'em and let 'em wiggle around there for a while. Feels good, huh? I bet people would pay money to lie naked in my compost.
Well, I guess I'd have to filter out the artichoke spikes and stuff.
