Ephiphanicity

Tomorrow is Feast of the Epiphany, the Twelfth Day of Christmas, which used to be the big Christmas feast day.

All those stories with King Arthur and the Knights of the Round table, and it starts out with they're having a big feast and then they need a volunteer to go whomp the Green Knight or the Pope or whomever. Typically that's Feast of the Epiphany where that happens.

Why? Who knows? Why did the S.S. Poseidon capsize at exactly midnight on New Year's Eve? It's just more dramatic that way.

Yeah, so Feast of the Epiphany used to be pretty dramatic. But no more. Even in the Catholic Church, they don't observe the 12 days of Christmas anymore.

Yeah. They have what they call the Octave of Christmas now, December 25th to January 1st. New Years Day they pack up all the Christmas stuff and put it away, just like the department stores.

Honestly, I think it's getting to the point where I think we should consider a constitutional ammendment to protect the separation of church and retail.

Allison at least remembered Feast of the Ephiphany. She sent Tony and me some lovely gifts.

Looking back, I guess we always were the more traditional-values-oriented kids in our peer group.

Hail Spring Branch High, Allison! And Hail the Feast of the Ephipany!

Oh, and this counts as your thank you card.
