Near deer

I'm one of those people I never go to the local tourist attractions. I was born in San Francisco, and I've never been to Coit Tower.

And as far as the cable cars go, what's the point? Do you have any idea how slow those things move? You could make better time walking to Union Square. And the way they keep raising the fare it's probably cheaper to take a cab, anyway.

And one place I never even thought about going to was Muir Woods. Just never even crossed my mind. I always knew it was over there on the other side of the bay in Marin County. You know, kind of the way Philadelphians are vaguely aware of the Jersey Pines.

In Philadelphia the people have the same attitude that you find in San Francisco. You leave town for weddings, funerals and legalized gambling, and that's pretty much it.

But anyway, Tony of all people said take some vacation time and we'll drive over to Muir Woods National Monument, so we did, and it was beautiful. I just couldn't get over it. It's such an amazing place. It's like a little slice of Yosemite right in our own backyard.

And there was this blacktail deer munching on some ferns as soon as we got there. I took a picture. I mean, we have deer in El Cerrito too, but, well, I guess I just got caught up in the moment.

Then we took Highway 1 out past Stinson Beach and Bolinas Lagoon and had lunch in a rustic Tavern in Olema.

And for the second day of my vacation, we're gonna be a little more traditional and go to Reno. A little bit of that Nature's Grandeur stuff goes a long way.
