Just Married

Last Thursday afternoon I checked sf gate and saw that City Hall was performing same sex marriages. I figured there'd be an injunction before Tony and I could get down there.

Then Friday morning, my coworker Bill told me that he and his partner had gotten married hours before, and the Marriage Bureau at City Hall was running like a well oiled machine.

Then Tony and I woke up yesterday morning, Saturday, Valentine's Day, and decided to take BART down to the Civic Center Station and tie the knot.

Well, we got there about 10:45, and there was a line that stretched from the Van Ness entrance of City Hall half way around the building to the Polk Street entrance.

And here's the beauty part. We didn't have to wait in line! Some lady from City Hall took one look at Tony's wheelchair and escorted us right past that whole line and into the room where you get your marriage license.

We were in and out in about an hour.

Don't hate me, fellow gay people!

I don't know where to begin to start thanking people. Mayor Gavin Newsom, the teary-eyed Deputy Marriage Commissioner who married us, our volunteer witnesses, Michael and Maya, who even gave us a ring (I didn't think to bring one.), the guy who took our pictures, all the demonstrators and supporters outside City Hall, all my real life and online friends for their words of support and encouragement.

And Tony for not insisting on wearing a Vera Wang gown.
