Today is a Holy Day of Obligation. It's All Saints Day.
Is it just me, or are there not as many Holy Days of Obligation as there used to be?
I think they've been quietly moving them to the weekend to make them more convenient for people.
I hope they don't do that with All Saints Day. I really like the tradition of Saints. There's something vaguely pagan about it. Well, a lot of the Saints in the early days of the church were actually wood spirits and minor deities, and that sort of thing.
The Church just said said "Stop praying to that wood spirit. Pray to this Saint instead. His name is Saint... ummm... Saint Woody. Here, let's change a few words of that invocation you're reciting. You can keep using the same incense."
That's what I love about Catholicism. They pretty much leave you to your own devices. Are Methodists even allowed to have Halloween candy for breakfast? I don't think so.
